Morante, Gladys – “Two White Horses”

Gladys Morante was born in 1963 in Peru, where she grew up surrounded by horses due to her father’s job as a jockey. Looking at her paintings, which portray at once elegant strokes and virile movement, one would not assume that for much of Gladys’s youth she resented horses for the professional stress and toll they took on her father’s family life and their relationship. Through her impressionist style and her recurring use of horses as subjects, the tome of her work exudes both an impression of strong, tumultuous emotion as well as reverence and beauty.
