Riverin – “Abstract Landscape”

Richard Riverin was born in 1942 in Quebec City. Unlike most of our other featured artists, Riverin approached art with a unique scientific perspective. Trained at Sherbrooke University in chemistry, Riverin worked as a chemist for a paint company, concocting his own paint coatings. In his own personal art, Riverin mixes his own paints, which, once dry, maintains a soft luster and freshness made to last for centuries. Though one might assume a chemist would approach art with a rigidity and lack of emotion, Riverin completely turns this notion on its head, as many art collectors who have acquired one of his pieces attest that they viscerally feel the harmony, texture, and sense of connectivity to Riverin’s created worlds.
